    1. Financial Wiz

It is insufficient to only read numbers. Your accountant should be able to sit back on your first visit, flit through your balance sheet and give you an immediate and exact reading of the state of your business. If on first visit they can't do this, grab your hat and make for the door! You desire a fantastic cpa and direct and honest guidance can nearly feel numbers and company well-being. They could do it well and they may do it immediately.
    2. Big and Small Picture Thinker

    Xero Hamilton
This is critical. A good accountant understands the detail of your financial statements. This is what all accountants are trained to do. But a great cpa understands the international or structural strengths and weaknesses of your finances and goes beyond conceptualises and book reconciliation. They give you a roadmap of advice on how exactly to get there and see and develop exceptional results for your company.
    3. Have They Grown Their Own Business?

What's the state of the own company? Is it in sound condition? This doesn't mean what it does mean is they have an excellent running company or company that is blooming and healthy, although they have created a corporation. Have they taken hazards? Are they proactive and progressive? Are they in step with the times? Do they employ modern technologies? These are good indexes. Choose note if this is happening and when it is, you might be in the appropriate place. If not, locate a beanie who is doing exactly that!
    4. Good Communication

Does your accountant stick to account - speak or do they follow best practise clear English included in their communications policy with customers? Are communications strained and laboured or simplified so there is mutual understanding and clarity? You have let us understand this is among the single most important qualities to you. Clients tell us they desire great, simple, smart help. They do not need to learn about academic theories on the development of tax laws in NZ over the previous thirty years!
    5. What Kind of Team Does Your Cpa Have?

A great accountant isn't frightened to fire team players who are not performing for you, the customer. A fantastic cpa will keep trying to find key team players who contribute to an excellent job. They go above and beyond to source team members who deliver not just some financials, but quality financials that maximise your return and without cutting corners. There is no sloppy at Slaters. It is all about an excellent team. From Tina (our simply excellent front of house reception individual) through to Harsha, (the leader of our Financials Team) and Beth and Shareena. Excellent staff - longstanding members over many years - great individuals who work well together for the team and client.
    6. Comprehends a Great Business Model.

It is not just about some financials. An incredible accountant helps you to develop a very good, comprehensive business model over many years. We are proud to say we have clients who have been with us 25 years plus some of these have now been challenged to grow and prosper their companies even when it's been painful! Those who've stuck with our huge picture strategies reap the rewards. If your accountant does not help you develop a healthy, longterm business model, have a think about moving on.

Up clear prices and front payments? And we don't mean "bundling bundles." We determined against these some years ago in favour of greater transparency. A clear, fixed price that you could pay off or pay in one fell swoop. (Bundling is a monthly payment that can eek away in the background without you ever entirely accessing the complete price. It's a confusion for clients since they are locked in to their package and can not ever actually access anything beyond their bundle without paying additional bucks. We don't do that. Not transparent enough for Slaters and we have seen it eventuate into relationship breakdown between partner and customer.) Easy to make a meeting? How about hidden costs? Are there annoying and hourly rates that are sneaky concealed someplace in the fine print? An incredible accountant is entirely transparent about costs and is also quite reachable. They're easy to communicate with and come back to you immediately via e-mail, phone calls or free meetings. At Slaters you are able to even pop in and catch Brad and Brett for no additional price, on the hop. That's ease!
    8. Trustworthy

This is a biggie. Customers have repeatedly reported that they're actually more comfortable with the accountant who's NOT out and about at every social function and assembly. You have told us a brilliant cpa is not boozing it up at the bar and letting loose with your private financial issues. There is a code of ethics to adhere to, and this also has to be taken very, very seriously. A fantastic accountant understands they are dealing with the fiscal heart and soul in their customers and their families and honours that advice accordingly.

These are just a few of the essential elements you need to look for when sourcing an excellent accountant. We hope it helps you on your financial journey. And remember, if you're looking to shift beanies or locate the one that can really help you, don't hesitate to e-mail us in at the office on brett@slater.co.nz .
